Denver weather: Storm warning through Saturday for high country

Careful out there! Forecasters are calling for a chilly Thursday in Denver as a storm predicted to drop as much as 3 feet of snow in parts of the high country settles into Colorado.

The National Weather Service in Boulder has extended a winter storm warning from Thursday through Saturday morning for Jackson, Larimer, Grand, Boulder, Gilpin, Clear Creek, Summit, Park and Douglas counties. Over that span, the weather service says high-altitude areas could see 1 to 2 feet of snow, with locally higher amounts up to 3 feet.

Read the whole story here, and be safe. If you need car service or a limo from the Denver airport so you don’t have to deal with driving, give Aspen 5 Star Limo a call!

Colorado Travel Video Guide

Great video from Esposa Travel giving you a true virtual tour of Colorado!

Colorado is situated in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, a land of remote valleys and high mountains.Denver is the state capital and is located on a sunny high plateau sixteen hundred metres above sea level where the local inhabitants enjoy more sunshine throughout the year than in California’s San Diego or even Honolulu.

The shining red rocks on the outskirts of Colorado Springs are a striking spectacle within the Garden Of The Gods. The huge red sandstone rock formations rise to a height of up to a hundred and fifty metres. The natural monuments are a reminder of the geological past of this extraordinary region situated at the foot of the Rocky Mountains Directly next to the caves at the foot of Pike’s Peak are the caves in which the Anasazi Indians once lived, the famous Cliff Dwellings where one can gain a fascinating insight into the culture of the native inhabitants of North America, how they lived, their culture and beliefs.

Sprague Lake is one of the region’s many glacial lakes and is ideal for walkers as well as anglers and boat enthusiasts, and several ranches offer accommodation. Ghost towns, gold mines, ancient cultures and mountain paradises, Native Indians, explorers, fur traders and gold prospectors, all the ingredients of the colourful history of America’s wild West. Colorado is indeed a place of spectacular nature and breathtaking adventure!

Are you ready for the upcoming Colorado road construction season?

Road Construction in Aspen and around ColoradoBeing in the transportation business, you have to stay current on what is happening in your area, along with what is being planned for it. I read some great news on the Denver Post today that the Colorado DOT is planning some major bridge construction projects for the summer construction season:

“Some of the biggest road projects in the Denver metro-area planned for this summer include replacing bridges considered “structurally deficient” by a national builders group.

But just because the structures are sagging from age does not mean motorists shouldn’t drive on them, said Colorado Department of Transportation officials Tuesday.

‘We evaluate all of our bridges every two years, sometimes more often if necessary,’ CDOT staff Bridge Manager Josh Laipply said, ‘and even if a bridge is considered ‘structurally deficient,’ that doesn’t mean it’s unsafe, only that it is aging and we need to regularly inspect and maintain it.

‘We don’t allow the public to travel on bridges that are considered unsafe.'”

This is great news, because they’re taking good care of the roads many of us travel on daily. If you want to check out exactly what bridges they’ll be working on, take a look at the article from the Post here.

But, you have to know where they’re working and when, or it can really ruin your day.

Part of my job as a limo operator is to stay on top of delays, construction, and anything else that could pose a hazard to your travel! If you’d rather not deal with staying on top of the construction schedule, (or if you know you definitely don’t want to deal with driving through construction!), let a transportation specialist help you plan your trip – we handle the details and the stress so you can focus on whatever it is you need to do!

4 work events that call for luxury transportation services

luxury transportation for Colorado businesses

I know, not everyone needs a limo service for business meetings and events. However, there are some times where it pays to make a big impression – and luxury transportation is a great way to do that. Whether you’re meeting with a new client or attending a conference or industry event, choosing a limo service to ensure punctionality and professionalism will leave a lasting impression.

Here are 4 different work events where you can really benefit by choosing a luxury transportation service:

1. Business travel – this is a pretty obvious one, but I have to mention it! Travel is stressful enough. Avoid that stress for yourself (or your employees) by ensuring someone else handles getting you to and from the airport, so you can focus on the important stuff – your work.

2. Attending corporate events – juggling one travel schedule can be difficult enough, but if you have multiple employees attending an event, it gets especially difficult! Let a transportation specialist (that’s me!) help you juggle – everything from multiple flight schedules to after-hours networking events.

3. Meeting with clients – show clients that you value their time and their business by using a luxury limo service. Whether you’re meeting them for lunch, or sending a car to pick them up from the airport, a quality client experience is a very valuable thing.

4. Rewarding employees – sometimes they just need to let loose! Show your employees that they are valuable to your organization by rewarding them with dinner or a night out on the town, complete with limo service!

What other times do you select luxury transportation over driving yourself? I’d love to hear!

Driving under any influence – always a big No No!

Whatever your personal feelings on the legalization of marijuana, it’s here in Colorado. I read an article today that talked about how Colorado is launching a new “Drive High, Get A DUI” campaign. This is to help remind drivers that even though marijuana is now legal, it still needs to be treated like alcohol and not used before driving.

In the article on KKTV’s website, they said

The effort from the Colorado Department of Transportation comes as Colorado struggles to keep accurate statewide records on marijuana-impaired drivers. State police chiefs told lawmakers this week that they need more money to train officers in recognizing stoned drivers.

In Washington state, officials this week reported that more drivers tested positive for marijuana in Washington last year, but officials there say there’s been no obvious, corresponding jump in car accidents.

While I find it interesting that Washington officials haven’t found any obvious corresponding jump in car accidents after marijuana was legalized, I know that the legalization means that there are probably many more people on the roads now that could be considered Driving Under the Influence. And since my job keeps my on the road and responsible for the safety of my customers, I want to remind everyone out there – it might be legal, but it can still ruin your life or the life of others. Just like alcohol, use in moderation, and always stay off the road.

There’s my public safety tip for the day!

Going extreme in Colorado

I love living in Colorado. It’s a wild, beautiful place, that’s still plenty close enough to enjoy big city events. One thing I think is neat is the transition from snow-sports, which is something many people think of first when they think of Colorado, to some of the warmer-weather extreme sports that are popular in the spring and summer. If extreme sports are your thing, I found a great article on Colorado.com that will let you know about a bunch of great events you can come out and participate in!

From their blog:

Colorado practically begs you to get outside and take advantage of all it has to offer. It’s also a great place for serious athletes to challenge themselves to ascend ever-greater heights — literally.

Each year, athletes show off their prowess in a series of mettle-testing, muscle-busting bike races, mud runs and other extreme Colorado competitions. If you want to suit up and jump in or watch from the sidelines, here are a few of the gnarliest extreme races across the state.

If you just want to work on your personal best, try out the Ride the Rockies event happening in June this year. This non-competitive bike ride leads 2,000 cyclists in a cross-state tour of the Rocky Mountains that highlights Colorado’s rugged scenery

If you’re REALLY looking for a challenge, the Hardrock 100 Endurance Run, Triple Bypass, and the Tough Mudder events might be more your speed.

Prefer to be a spectator? I don’t blame you!  🙂  Come out to see the GoPro Mountain Games or the 3rd Annual USA Pro Challenge.

And no matter where you’re heading to in Colorado this season, why not go there in comfort? Aspen 5 Star Limo can bring you to any of these events (not to mention a ton of other cool places) in luxury. Treat yourself before you kill yourself out there!
